DOTS is proud to have a long-standing working relationship with the Asbestos Disease Support Society (ADSS).
ADSS is a non profit organisation that supports people and their families who are affected by asbestos related disease across QLD and the NT. Their members have access to Occupational Therapy assessment to help determine their support and environmental needs now and in to the future. We liaise closely with ADSS staff including Social Work to assist you manage effectively with an asbestos related disease. Our aim is to help you to maintain your independence, at home for as long as possible. ADSS also provide information and support regarding your ideal dietary needs (research done in collaboration with the University of Queensland) with an asbestos related disease. Contact them if you require information or assessment by a Dietitian. |
What does the OT assessment include?
Our assessment lasts 2 hours and includes a complete initial assessment of your medical history, functional capacity and support network. We also complete a Home Assessment, and a Falls Risk assessment. We provide you with information regarding Energy Conservation. This is the term used to explain how we use energy, how to preserve it and how to make it suit your needs. Having low energy is a common side effect of lung conditions and can significantly limit how you function and therefore how much help you need. We can train you in how to carefully use the energy that you have so that you can manage the activities that are important to you. |
